*"From the rising of the sun to its setting the name of the LORD is to be praised."\* — Psalm 113:3*

Short prayer this morning. Just the list and the minute and done.

The week is almost over and the week was a big week and this morning the bigness has passed and the house is just the house again. The apple butter is in jars on the counter — eight pints, labeled, waiting for lids. The stove is cold because I did not light it last night and the house is cool and I like it cool on Saturday mornings because it makes the coffee hotter by comparison.

From the rising of the sun to its setting. That is a whole day. The psalmist does not say praise God in the morning when you feel like it or praise God at noon when you remember or praise God at night when the day has gone well. He says from the rising to the setting, the whole arc, the whole day, including the parts where you are just standing at the stove stirring and the parts where you are sitting at the table thinking about a man who checked the fence every Sunday and the parts where you are not thinking about anything at all.

The whole day is the prayer. That is what I have been learning this fall, and I am still learning it.

*Lord, from the rising to the setting. The whole day is yours.*
