*"O LORD, in the morning you hear my voice; in the morning I plead my case to you, and watch." — Psalm 5:3*

The week after a big week is always quieter than I expect.

Earl's birthday was Wednesday. I wrote about the fence and the temper and the ice cream. I wrote about love being the same weight as death. I wrote all of it and now it is Monday and the writing is done and the man is still gone and the kitchen is the kitchen and the coffee is the coffee and Biscuit is on his spot by the stove where he has been since I lit it last week and where he will be until the crocuses come up, and the morning is ordinary.

I am not complaining about ordinary. I am reporting it.

The list was the usual. Edna. Dan. Hannah. The boy. The woman at church. Henry. Biscuit. Pastor Holloway. The children in the class. I said the names and sat in the minute after and the minute was quiet and I did not feel anything particular and that was fine. Not every morning is a gold-on-the-wall morning. Some mornings are just mornings, and the prayer is just the prayer, and the coffee is just the coffee, and the psalmist says in the morning I plead my case and watch, and this morning I watched and there was nothing to see and that was enough.

*Lord, it is Monday after a big week. The morning is ordinary. I am here.*
