*"For God alone my soul waits in silence; from him comes my salvation." — Psalm 62:1*

Saturday morning and I have not said anything out loud yet today.

That is not unusual in this house. There has not been anybody to say anything to for seven years, unless you count Biscuit, and I do count Biscuit, but he does not require sentences. I let him out and let him in and put the food down and none of that takes words.

So the first words of my Saturday are usually the ones I say to God, and this morning I did not say those either. I sat down with the coffee at the usual time in the usual chair and opened the Bible and then I just did not begin. Not out of trouble. Nothing is wrong. I sat there and the clock went in the hallway and the refrigerator came on and went off and the light came up the wall the way it does, and I did not start.

There was a time that would have worried me. I would have thought I was slipping, or cold, or that the well had gone dry, and I would have pushed. I have pushed a great many prayers into existence over the years, and I do not think they were worth much.

The psalm says for God alone my soul waits in silence. Waits. In silence. It is not describing a failure to pray. It is describing a posture.

The week is finished. Whatever it was, it is done, and it does not need summarizing to anybody. There is nobody here to summarize it to, and the One who is here was in all of it and does not need the report.

So I sat and waited and did not say anything, and that was Saturday morning.

Now I will get up and go to the store because I am out of milk, and the waiting will keep.

*Lord, I am here. I have nothing to add.*
